Tinha muita curiosidade para ler este livro e, quando a Joana da Silva propôs que o lêssemos em janeiro para o projeto de leitura que tem em conjunto com a Rita da Nova através do Podcast Livra-te (podes ler aqui a minha opinião do podcast) então, arregacei as mangas e debrucei-me nesta leitura.

My heart was beating so fast - faster and faster - until it didn't feel like part of my body any longer, it felt like a vicious thrashing little bird trapped against my ribcage.

Este livro tem uma das premissas mais interessantes com que alguma vez me cruzei: neta e avó (duas gerações diferentes) trocam respetivamente de casa, com o intuito de experimentarem o que é calçar os sapatos uma da outra.

I'm not sure how you can ever be grateful enough for someone leading you through the darkest times in your life. 

Eileen, a avó, está prestes a fazer oitenta anos, foi deixada pelo marido Wade, cuida dos seus vizinhos, participa em muitas das atividades da sua comunidade e, ajuda a sua filha Marian, a lidar com a perda da sua outra filha, Carla. Por outro lado, Leena, a neta, encontra-se perto de um esgotamento depois de utilizar o trabalho como um meio de escape à perda da sua irmã Carla, tem crises de ansiedade, está numa relação em que as suas necessidades são ignoradas e, não consegue falar com a mãe sem se sentir nervosa e, perto de colapsar.

Esta troca de residência entre a avó e a neta vai fazer com que as duas ganhem uma nova perspetiva sobre as suas vidas, mas também, vão tentar curar as suas dores e talvez, encontrarem novos amores nas quais, sejam verdadeiramente valorizadas e amadas.

Maybe fixing one another is the Cotton family's love language.

Para além de uma leitura interessante e, leve, a história é bonita e representa um verdadeiro quentinho no coração.
