Neste romance juvenil (YA) conhecemos Rosie, uma jovem adolescente que recentemente perdeu a mãe. Além dessa despedida, tem de lidar com as atividades da escola e pensar na sua candidatura à universidade. No fundo, tem de voltar aos poucos à sua vida e aprender a conciliar os sentimentos com os deveres que lhe são pedidos.

No outro lado da história, temos Vance, um jovem ator que sempre teve tudo o que quis e, que por um falso erro os pais o obrigam a ir para uma pequena aldeia isolada com o objetivo de pensar no seu comportamento. 

For once, love is enough.

Os dois conhecem-se por acidente, através do cão de Vance. Embora sejam da mesma idade e estejam ambos em busca da reconciliação interior, não parecem partilhar mais nada. Até que se apercebem da sua admiração pelo universo de Starfield.

Este livro é inspirado na história "A Bela e o Monstro" como o próprio título do livro denuncia. Consigo perceber essa inspiração nas entrelinhas, mas estava à espera de encontrar um romance mais maduro. Embora saiba se tratar de um YA, a verdade é que achei o comportamento do Vance muito infantil e, até certo ponto do livro irritante.

Contudo, é uma pequena história que cumpre o seu propósito. Dá-nos a conhecer dois adolescentes com as suas lutas interiores ao mesmo tempo que se apaixonam.
