Li este livro como leitura em conjunta do mês de novembro para o @thecharactersclub e simplesmente adorei. 

It was difficult to imagine a time before them, a world in which they hadn't come.

A medida reúne uma distopia onde de um dia para o outro as pessoas de uma determinada idade para cima recebem mundialmente todas uma caixa na porta de casa. O dia amanheceu igual para todos: com a dúvida a apertar os corações.

Dentro da caixa consta um fio que está correlacionado com a longevidade da vida. Portanto, se o fio é curto têm uma vida curta, se o fio é longo têm uma vida longa. No início, todos desacreditam e acham que é a partida de algum bilionário, mas à medida que as pessoas com o fio pequeno morrem passa a constar como potencialmente verdadeiro. Com o passar dos tempos os cientistas vão inclusive conseguir dizer estimadamente o último dia de vida.

Amie had read enough novels to recognize that this was the part of the story where nobody knew the hell was going on, where the characters made rash decisions whose consequences would only be revealed chapters later.

É um livro com uma premissa genial e intrigante. Conseguimos inclusive perceber as decisões tomadas pelos políticos e os cidadãos de outros países. No fundo, o contraste entre o medo e o que fazemos com o tempo que nos resta.
